Pentagon officials invited civilian leaders from across the nation to participate in the 73rd Joint Civilian Orientation Conference. The week long journey covered over 18,000 miles and the following list introduced the 73rd JCOC members to an assortment of military force briefings, demonstrations and trainings from the U.S. Military Men and Women in Southwest Asia and the horn of Africa.
- Lt. General Douglas E. Lute, joint staff director of operations, conducts a brief on the U.S. Central Command's area of operations and overview of Global War on Terrorism. The briefing took place during a tour of the Pentagon press briefing room; Pentagon.
- Overview of Central Command (CENTCOM) by VADM David C. Nichols, Deputy Commander, CENTCOM; Pentagon.
- Mil-To-Mil training (Anti-terrorism/force protection); Djibouti.
- Room clearing exercises by members of the U.S. Army Special Forces in Djibouti, Africa.
- U.S. Special Ops capabilities and (EOD) Explosive Ordinance Disposal operations in Djibouti Africa.
- Tour of Nuclear Aircraft Carrier-USS Dwight D. Eisenhower for ships mission and capabilities. Observe launch and recovery of several aircraft from flight deck.
- Maritime security operations brief by RADM Scott Swift, War Room; Kuwait.
- Marines at NAVCENT Headquarters discuss their jobs in the AOR (Area of Operation) and allow hands-on training with some of the communication, weapons and protective gear used in the field; Kuwait.
- Classroom and field demonstration training on IED’s (Improvised Explosive Devices),also know as Roadside Bombs; Kuwait.
- Tactical movement with counter-IED training (TMCT)
- U.S. Marine security teams demonstrate hand-to-hand and various weapon systems used for security and protection of assets and personnel; Bahrain.
- Practical egress training of an overturned HMMWV (Hummer or Humvee) via a vehicle simulator referred to as a HMMWV Egress Assistance Trainer (HEAT); Kuwait.
- Shoot/Don’t Shoot scenarios through an Engagement skills training(EST) simulator; Kuwait.
- Training on medical simulation systems that prepare soldiers for some of the injuries that military members encounter while deployed to Iraq.
